Gerês National Park is the only National Park in Portugal and for sure the best place to go for a hike. The Park is situated at one and half hour driving from Porto and this is what it will take to be in the heart of the park,Hiking is not very popular in Portugal and due to that, is always difficult to visit the best spots in the park, this because there is a lack of marked trails taking you into the heart of the park, reason I decided to do a trail a bit tougher but as well much better. This is a 11 km circular track with a 700 meters elevation gain, 350 uphill and 350 downhill in an uneven terrain, something much more challenging than a normal back-country hiking, so something between medium and difficult in terms of intesity. For people with experience in this type of terrain, sportive shoes can be enough however boots and walking poles are recommended for people less used to it. Mid way we will have a deserved picnic in a fantastic spot with a stunning view ;)
