This is a fantastic cross-country ride through isolated hillside landscapes to Andalucia’s “lake district” and finally to the famous El Chorro gorge. It is a tougher version of our regular mtb day trip to El Chorro, including more off-road hill-climbing and descent. We use a mixture of tracks and single track, cycling through pine forest and out into open countryside, with mountain ranges all around. We enjoy some technical riding on narrow forest trails, before a long descent to the town of Ardales. We leave the town via the less travelled route, heading on tracks high up into forested hills. We finish near the dramatic gorge of El Chorro, a narrow river channel which cuts between two 150m tall limestone cliffs, with views of the recently restored Caminito del Rey walkway.Note: Moderately technical sections during this ride so you will need some basic mtb skills, although some technical sections are optional.
