BriefingYou have just landed in Romania, the last country to exit the Iron Curtain of Soviet influence in the late 80’s after the Revolution in Dec 1989. At least this is what the travel guides say. Under Soviet Communist rule since WW2, the people of Romania lived for more than 20 years under Ceausescu’‘’s regime, in the so-called Golden Era, coping with the oppression of freedom, censorship and even food deprivation in the last years of the regime. Despite these facts, some Romanians still look back at the life under the rule of the last Dictator of Europe with melancholia and regret. The known facts nowadays are that in December 1989, the Romanian people stood up and started the Revolution that would end in Ceausescu’’s demise. Some enigmas remain and so far, some of the questions surrounding those events remained unanswered.
